Citizenship of the Republic of Serbia

ADMISSION OF EMIGRANTS INTO CITIZENSHIP OF THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA

Emigrant (an individual who emigrated from the Republic of Serbia with intention of permanently living abroad) and his descendant can be admitted into the citizenship of the Republic of Serbia under condition that he is full 18 years old, not deprived of legal capacity, and that he submits a statement recognizing the Republic of Serbia as his own country.

The following documents are required:
- Completed request (form MS WORD or PDF format). Signature of the applicant must be notarized.
- Statement of the recognition of the Republic of Serbia as own country. (form MS WORD or PDF format). Signature of the applicant must be notarized.
- Original Birth Certificate not older than six months (for those born in USA a Birth Certificate with an Apostille certification -done at the Office of Secretary of State in the state the applicant was born, translated into Serbian)
- Original Marriage Certificate, if applicable, with an Apostille certification (as above), translated into Serbian
- Birth Certificate of ancestors born in the Republic of Serbia who had the citizenship of the Republic of Serbia (if applicant was not born in the Republic of Serbia)
- For a child over 14 years of age, notarized consent of the child (form MS WORD or PDF format)
- Money Order or Certified Check in the amount of $275.00 payable to the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia as a fee for admission into the citizenship.
- Return self-addressed envelope with paid postage for registered mail
- Documents should be sent to the Consulate General by registered mail

ACQUISTITION OF CITIZENSHIP BY ORIGIN

A person older than 18 years of age, born abroad, whose one parent at the time of his birth was a citizen of the Republic of Serbia, while the other parent was a foreign citizen, can acquire the citizenship of the Republic of Serbia through origin if by his 23rd birthday he submits a request to be registered into the evidence of the citizens of the Republic of Serbia.
The following documents are required:
- Completed request (form MS WORD or PDF format). Signature of the applicant must be notarized.
- Original Birth Certificate not older than six months (for those born in USA a Birth Certificate with an Apostille certification -done at the Office of Secretary of state in the State the applicant was born, translated into Serbian)
- Proof that the applicant was not registered in the evidence of citizens of the Republic of Serbia at the place of birth or residence of his parent - Serbian citizen
- Original Citizenship Certificate for parents, not older than six months
- Notarized photo-copy of the passport, identification card or other document bearing a photograph
- Money Order or Certified Check in the amount of $117.00 payable to the Consulat general of the Republic of Serbia as a fee for acquisition of the citizenship.
- Return self-addressed envelope with paid postage for registered mail
- Documents should be sent to the Consulate General by registered mail

VALIDATION OF CITIZENSHIP

A person who acquired citizenship of the Republic of Serbia, while not registered into vital records of birth or the evidence of citizens of the Republic of Serbia, can submit request for the validation of the citizenship.

The following documents are required:
- Completed request (form MS WORD or PDF format). Signature of the applicant must be notarized.
- Proof that the applicant was not registered in the evidence of citizens of the Republic of Serbia in the records at the place of applicant's birth and/or at the place of birth or residence of his parents at the time of applicant's birth
- Original Birth Certificate, not older than six months
- Original Marriage Certificate if applicable
- Original Citizenship Certificate for parents, not older than six months
- Original Marriage Certificate for the applicant's parents, not older than six months
- Notarized photo-copy of the passport, identification card or other document bearing a photograph
- Money Order or Certified Check in the amount of $104.00 payable to the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia as a fee for validation of the citizenship.
- Return self-addressed envelope with paid postage for registered mail
- Documents should be sent to the Consulate General by registered mail


ADMISSION INTO CITIZENSHIP FOR MEMBERS OF SERBIAN OR OTHER NATION OR ETHNIC COMMUNITY FROM THE TERRITORY OF THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA WHO RESIDE ABROAD


Article 23 of the Law confirms that the member of Serbian or other nation or ethnic community from the territory of the Republic of Serbia, not residing in the Republic of Serbia, may be admitted into the citizenship of the Republic of Serbia provided that he is full 18 years old, not deprived of legal capacity, and that he submits a statement recognizing the Republic of Serbia as his own country.

The following documents are required:
- Completed request (form MS WORD or PDF format). Signature of the applicant must be notarized.
- Statement of the recognition of the Republic of Serbia as own country. (form MS WORD or PDF format). Signature of the applicant must be notarized
- Original Birth Certificate, not older than six months (for children also if included by request). For children born in USA a Birth Certificate with an Apostille certification - done at the Office of Secretary of state in the state the applicant was born, translated into Serbian)
- Original Marriage Certificate if applicable
- Proof of residence in the USA (copy of Green Card or valid visa)
- Notarized photo-copy of the passport, identification card or other document bearing a photograph
- For a child over 14 years of age, notarized consent of the child (form MS WORD or PDF format)
- Money Order or Certified Check in the amount of $275.00 payable to the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia as a fee for admission into the citizenship.
- Return self-addressed envelope with paid postage for registered mail
- Documents should be sent to the Consulate General by registered mail

RE-ACQUISTITION OF CITIZENSHIP (REINTEGRATION)

A person who has been discharged from the citizenship of the Republic of Serbia and has acquired a foreign citizenship as well as a person whose citizenship of the Republic of Serbia was terminated by the request of his parents, may again acquire citizenship of the Republic of Serbia if he is full 18 years old, not deprived of legal capacity, and that he submits a statement recognizing the Republic of Serbia as his own country.
The following documents are required:
- Completed request (form MS WORD or PDF format). Signature of the applicant must be notarized.
- Statement of the recognition of the Republic of Serbia as own country. (form MS WORD or PDF format). Signature of the applicant must be notarized
- Original Birth Certificate not older than six months
- Copy of document on discharge from the citizenship of the Republic of Serbia
- Proof of foreign citizenship
- Notarized photo-copy of the passport, identification card or other document bearing a photograph
- Money Order or Certified Check in the amount of $275.00 payable to the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia as a fee for re-acquisition of the citizenship.
- Return self-addressed envelope with paid postage for registered mail
- Documents should be sent to the Consulate General by registered mail

TERMINATION OF CITIZENSHIP


Citizen of the Republic of Serbia can terminate his citizenship by submission of request to be released from same under following conditions:
- Applicant is full 18 years of age
- If male, has no impediments regarding military service
- Has satisfied all tax and other obligations required by law in Serbia
- Has fulfilled legal obligations pertaining ownership within the marriage and family relations between parents and children in respect to persons residing in Serbia
- Has no ongoing criminal investigation or legal action against him, or if sentenced to an incarceration, that the given sentence has been served
- Has a foreign citizenship or a proof that will be admitted into the foreign citizenship
The following documents are required:
- Completed requests (form MS WORD or PDF format and form MS WORD or PDF format). Signature of the applicant must be notarized.
- Original Birth Certificate, not older than six months
- Original Citizenship Certificate of the Republic of Serbia, not older than six months
- Proof of foreign citizenship or guarantee of acceptance into foreign citizenship
- If male, a Certificate by the relevant military authority confirming the applicant has regulated his military service
- Notarized photo-copy of the passport, identification card or other document bearing a photograph
- Money Order or Certified Check in the amount of $565 payable to the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia as a fee for termination of the citizenship.
- Return self-addressed envelope with paid postage for registered mail
- All documents should be sent to this Consulate by registered mail
